Work

«The craftsman is known by his work…»

Each piece is unique, the fruit of a purely traditional craft. They are in churches and convents and monasteries of the various provinces of Castilla y León, where they are worshipped throughout the year and participate in the religious acts for which they were conceived (processions, foot kissing, petitions…).

Although my sculptures are of recent making, they are inspired by the Castilian sculptors of the XVI and XVII centuries; following the same traditional process using pine wood from Soria, egg tempera polychrome, oil painting and ‘estofados’ with gold leaf. This gives them a great artistic value. Notable characteristics are the expressiveness of face and hands, as well as the details in the wide folds of the robes.

Both decorative and structural wooden elements are also made in the workshop as complements to the statues. This work includes thrones, floats and pedestals, as well as elements related with Holy Week and other religious items such as crosses, altars and chests, etc.
